Wings + Horns - Spring Chino

These are by far the best chino’s done of the past three seasons by one of my favourite brands Wing+Horns. Versatility is the key with these, worn with a pair of Red Wing boots or rolled up with a pair of boat shoes topped with a Penfield Vassan jacket or a Heritage Research varsity.

What people don’t realize is that buying a good pair of chino’s or khaki’s should be treated the same as buying a pair of jeans. Right now the olive joints are my favourite but the blue definately comes close. They’re Canadian made and available from the homies at Nomad. Assouline Publishing Inc.

Originally the focus of this post was solely going to be placed on the American Menswear Fashion Book, but after I found out it was published by Assouline the direction changed.

This publishing house has or the past 15 years created fine illustrated books, luxury editions and an exquisite gift line dedicated to fashion, photography, art and design. Renowned for their highly original graphic concept, Assouline books are a work of art that capture culture and brings it to life. The spirit and ’savoir faire’ of these works have contributed to the creation of a unique and eclectic, chic and elegant brand that is immediately identifiable.

They’ve published books about and by the best: Chanel, Dior, Van Cleef & Arpels, Balenciaga, Chloé, Yohji Yamamoto, Marc Jacobs and soon Pierre Cardin. You get the idea.

Now, In the same series as the bestselling American Fashion and American Fashion Accessories, Assouline and the Council of Fashion Designers of America present American Fashion Menswear, the most authoritative and exciting book to date on the evolution of menswear in our country over the past century. From the outset, America was settled by individualists and adventurers who severed ties with the old world to find their destiny in an unknown land, a separation that opened the way for change in a less stratified society. To survive the challenges of a new environment, the American man needed garments that were functional and well-designed, qualities that continue to endure at the very heart of American menswear. From Levi Strauss to the Ivy League, lounge suits to Zoot suits, cowboys to counterculture, American Fashion Menswear celebrates the quintessentially American themes that are emulated throughout the world of fashion, as well as the designers and style icons who have made lasting contributions to the way men dress.

A must have for the coffee table of any self respecting fashion aficianado.

L.V. - O.G.

PrintI was going through my archives of print adverts and came across this gem. Before KanYe became The Don, there was Grand Master Flash. Timb boots, Kangol and all. How much more Hip-Hop can you get?

Classic motifs of converging genres juxtapose one another and foreshadow the movement that is to come. Looking back it’s easy to connect-the-dots, but it is a true talent to connect them looking forward.

Oliberté Adibo Chukka

Oliberte – Adibo 12

These Oliberté Adibo Chukka boots put simply, look dope! Especially considering every brand is producing chukka boots I still feel there’s something different about them. They’re made in Africa using premium Ethiopian leather for the outer, lined with a soft goat leather and finished with a recycled crepe rubber sole. These are now top 3 in my ‘to purchase’ list. Via Marcus Troy (Word around TFC is that we should look out for something new and fresh from Marcus Troy’s online presence…stay tuned). Continue reading for more pictures.

W-Shock’ed

With the appeal of hand crafted items growing over the past few years ranging from leathers to wood, Saint48 x PRPLMNT bring us the G-Shock W-Shock. It features a plastic wristband with a wood face. My only problem could be that the wood may be too thick and come off too far from the wrist (see pictures). None the less a very interesting approach.

$250 @ the Online Store.

Thom Browne for Supreme

thom brown supreme 1 Thom Browne for Supreme I woke up today to my usual emails but was very suprised to see an update from one of my favourite street-wear companies Supreme. On March 25th they will be releasing an unsual but very special collaboration consisting of 3 oxford shirts with none other than Thom Browne. For those that don’t know Mr. Browne was named menswear designer of the year in 2006 (CFDA) and again in 2008 (GQ).

Street  wear + men’s high fashion/tailoring; you can see why I was suprised. It really proves the marriage of the two seemingly different streams of fashion of course only starting a few years ago when most labels introduced ‘cut and sew’.
