Fish House In Singapore

Did you know…

I have a real admiration for modern architecture. A friend of mine’s father is a very famous architect that designed three homes in Bridle Path, Toronto and two buildings in New York City. The conversations we and her father have over dinner are very intriguing and enjoyable. More pictures here…

You Don’t Know Jack

tfc_jackspadedopkit1Get to know JACK…

“There are certain products that men everywhere turn to for reliability and inherent style. Military issue chino pants, Timex watches, Lacoste shirts, Levi’s, oxford cloth shirts-all represent the proverbial “real McCoy.” Most were originally created to serve a purpose-Chinos for the military, Levis for the workman, Lacoste shirts for the sportsman.

Mass marketers have taken the concept of these items and produced lesser products for the sake of fashion. Remember when the only great chino pant you could buy was made of heavy canvas and sold in Army/Navy stores? Unfortunately, few of these originals still exist.

JACK SPADE always appreciated companies like J.Press, Brooks Brothers, Levis’s, Barbour and even Oxxford Clothing for being great companies that make useful items for men. The products these companies manufacture have style because the designs have a reason for being.

With these products as inspiration, JACK SPADE was created. We want to return to this approach, once again offering men items that represent both honest, thoughtful design and practical purpose.”

What more can you ask for?

Modern Publicity - Ken Leung

tfc_modernpublicityAs a huge admirer of the work of Tyler Brule I stumbled upon Modern Publicity.

They are a London-based design consultancy established by Ken Leung, the founding Art Director of Monocle magazine. Leung’s sensibilities really speak to me, and I love how he has seamlessly covered both print and retail.

Having worked in both areas myself, for clients like Nike and retailer Athletes World, I feel that the retail environment should serve as the living, breathing counterpart to the print and web pieces.

His recent work for Vanity Fair is stunning; in describing his work to AisleOne he says “Given such an amazing opportunity, I envisioned the project as not just a magazine redesign but a complete brand relaunch, also proposing an accompanying corporate identity programme. I wanted the stationery to feel timeless, intelligent and reflective of the magazine’s heritage, whilst also being fresh and modern in it’s use of colour.”

Working with discerning international clients, their services span across art direction, corporate identity, editorial, naming and packaging. Their philosophy is to create beauty and functionality in all of our projects by applying a considered, well-crafted and lasting approach.

Take a moment a cruise through the elegant work of Mr. Leung.

Television.

Personally, Im a 90’s baby, in most ways I believe television raised me (please, don’t repeat that around my mother - she would kill me) but I feel most of my morals and lessons were taught to me through shows like Animaniacs, Dexter’s Laboratory, Rugrats, and the 2000s re-runs of Boy Meets World and Fresh Prince…I feel television is responsible for more than half of the pictures that come in my head as I create these character filled, universal, emotion driven stories that I call - ahem - MUSIC…I dont watch as much TV now that my journey has kept me busy but I am thankful for the moments that me and my Sony KV32S40 spent together…I feel I left her it with more inspiration than a broken heart would have given me… This video kinda says other-wise…

This is a video is a interpretation done by Beth Fulton. The inspiration comes from Todd Alcott’s poem, Television.
